American Pit Bull Terrier 101

American Pit Bull Terrier is a nickname given to the American Staffordshire Terrier dog breed, although over the years there are many other dogs of the bully breed that have also been called Pit bulls. Several jurisdictions have enacted pit bull specific legislation against Pit Bulls ranging from an outright ban on the possession of this dog breed to many restrictions and conditions on the ownership of the dog breed.

American Pit Bull Terrier Personality

Although over the years Pit Bulls have been getting a lot of negative media attention, the reality is that Pit Bulls are just like other dog breeds in that their temperament depends a lot on their owner’s sense of responsibility and awareness of the breed specifics. They are strong dogs that were bred for fighting and need an experienced owner who will spend considerable time training them.

American Pit Bull Terrier Considerations

Pit bull owners advocate deeply for their dogs and are extremely protective of the dog that they know can be very friendly, loyal, and loving family companions. They are also known for their determination they bring to any task. These traits sometimes combine to make the Pit Bull breed very hard to handle for inexperienced pet parents or for families with small children. This does not mean that Pit Bulls cannot be trained to adapt to all settings.
