The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a dog breed that hails from, obviously, the Chesapeake Bay area during the 19th century. They were developed and used by market hunters to retrieve waterfowl. They are now primarily a family pet but love to be a hunting companion on the fields as well. They love being in the water and are known for their ability to hunt. They are a medium sized dog with a thick, wavy double-coat.

They are happiest when they are working alongside their partners. They love to be local when happy and some of them will even smile at times by barring their front teeth in a grin. They can be excellent family dogs when socialized properly from an early age and trained well.

They have a lot of stamina and ability that makes them superb hunting dogs. They are extremely intelligent dogs that learn at a high speed and need mental and physical stimulation to keep them healthy and happy.
