Golden Retriever 101
The Golden Retriever is one of the most popular pet dogs in the United States. They were historically developed to be gun dogs that can retrieve shot waterfowl such as ducks, upland game birds, etc. during shooting parties and hunting. They were named retrievers because they have an excellent ability to retrieve game without damaging it. Given that they are water retrievers, they still love to be in the water.
Golden Retriever Personality
The Golden Retriever is usually described as a very kind, friendly and confident breed. They are great family pets and are excellent with children because they are very patient dogs. They are not very protective of their families or territorial so they get along with people they know and strangers alike. They are very trusting and gentle, which is great but this is also what makes them a poor guard dog.
Golden Retriever Considerations
It is important that a Golden Retriever is able to get ample amounts of exercise on a daily basis. They are fun-loving animals that have the ability to focus on given tasks and get things done. They will work until they are ready to collapse so it is important to make sure that they do not overwork themselves. They are very trainable dogs who do very well in advanced training and obedience classes.
