Great Dane 101
The Great Danes are a German dog breed that is known for its gigantic size. In fact, they are one of the world’s largest dog breeds. Dogs resembling the Great Danes have been seen on Egyptian monuments dating back to 3,000 B.C. The American Kennel Club describe Great Danes as a breed that combines in its appearance dignity, strength and elegance with great size and a powerful , well-formed, smoothly muscled body.
Great Dane Personality
Even though Great Danes are gigantic looking, they are even-tempered and gentle. They are usually friendly towards other dogs and even other non-canine pets in the household. They do not display a high prey drive or extreme aggression. In fact, they are very loving and gentle animals who with proper training and care will be great around children. This is even more so if they have been socialized well from an early age.
Great Dane Considerations
If not properly socialized, a Great Dane can become fearful or even aggressive towards new people, environments and other animals. Another thing to consider about Great Danes is that although they only require daily walks to maintain their health, they are also really big and require a lot of moving space. Finally, owners should know that Great Dane puppies grow too big, too fast and which puts them at risk for joint and bone problems.
