Labrador Retriever 101

The Labrador Retriever is one of the several kinds of gun dogs in the United States. They also make great family pets because they are even-tempered and well-behaved dogs that get along really well with children and do very well with the elderly. These qualities coupled with the fact that Labrador retrievers are very athletic and playful dogs makes them the most popular dog breed in the United States.

Labrador Retriever Personality

The American Kennel Association describes the Labrador Retriever’s temperament as kind, pleasant, outgoing and tractable nature. As a retriever, they have a strong sense of smell which allows them to track down on any smell and follow the path that leads to that smell until they can find it. This makes the dog breed also very playful because they love to hold objects, chase things down and carry things back without breaking them.

Labrador Retriever Considerations

Labrador Retrievers are so calm and gentle that they frequently trained to aid the blind and to act as therapy dogs for seniors and the mentally ill. They have also been used as therapy dogs for autistic children and others with special needs. They are also highly intelligent dogs that are used to perform screening and direction work for the law enforcement and other official agencies.
