Rhodesian Ridgeback 101
The Rhodesian Ridgeback originated in South African. They are a specific hunting dog breed. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is known as the Lion Dog because of its ability to keep a lion at bay while waiting for its master to make his or her move to kill. In today’s world, the Rhodesian Ridgebacks are still known for their bravery and guard dog abilities.
Rhodesian Ridgeback Personality
The Rhodesian Ridgebacks are loyal and intelligent dogs. They can be somewhat aloof to strangers but this is not to be confused with aggression. If a Rhodesian Ridgeback has been trained properly, it will be more likely ignore rather than challenge a stranger. They are also protective of their owners and families. If trained well, they can be excellent watch and guard dogs.
Rhodesian Ridgeback Considerations
It is not recommended that an inexperienced persona train the Rhodesian Ridgebacks. They are strong-willed and intelligent dogs that need to have a firm and consistent owner. They need reward based training, great socialization from an early age and tons of positive reinforcement. They also need to get a proper amount of vigorous exercise to maintain their mental and physical health.
