Miniature Schnauzer Overview
The Miniature Schnauzer temperament is very special given that they are such small dogs. Just like the rest of the terrier breeds, they can be quite feisty since they strongly believe that they are supposed to be able to rule their kingdom (their humans, house and fellow canine friends) in the way they want to. They also love to be able to take in as much attention as they possibly can.

Miniature Schnauzer’s temperament is very active and fun loving. This small dog breed loves to run around and play outside with the people whom they love. They might be small, but they are a big fan of an active lifestyle. They also love being little goof balls and making everyone smile! The Miniature Schnauzer temperament might make it look like a little clown to you but they are really very intelligent dogs. They use their intelligence in multiple ways, including opening closets and cabinets to be able to get food, their favorite toy, your hat that smells like you or even your most prized pair of shoes.
Are Miniature Schnauzers Good Family Dogs?
Miniature Schnauzers are very sociable and so her or she should get along fine with your other household pets. While it might seem that they are chasing down the house cat or even your other dog because they are trying to hurt them but in reality they are doing so just to amuse themselves.
Since Miniature Schnauzers are fun-loving and they like spending time with their families, these guys are great for first time dog owners who want to spend a lot of time with their dog. They are also great for active families who like hiking, biking, swimming, running, etc. While these guys love to run with their family, it is not a good idea to let them wander off by themselves. They do have a terrier hunter spirit so they need to be kept in a well-fenced yard so that they do not get carried away when they see a cat, squirrel, rabbit or even a bird!
The Miniature Schnauzer has an active temperament that needs to be working at all times. They need to be able to feel productive so that they are not digging up the yard or chasing everyone else’s pets away all day. It might be a good idea to enroll your Miniature Schnauzer in earthdog activities where they will be able to track rodents and even dig for them. Since rodents are hidden into the ground and are in safe enclosures, these kinds of activities are safe, secure activities that will satisfy a Miniature Schnauzer’s active brain and hunting instinct. You can also enroll them in agility classes because their intelligence can be used to win a lot of different active competitions.
